Since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated with electronics and always been dabbling with electronic
projects and such. In 1972, my first detector was a Radio Shack kit, didn’t find anything but, was exciting though.
From there I purchased a Relco metal detector, found a few coins at the school grounds. In 1978, I bought a
White’s 5000/D and from there, I took off! I was coinshooting, relic hunting and looking for gold! (sorry no gold).
In those day’s, I went to places that now are considered off-limits and are protected historic sites.
I’ve been a member since August 2007. I am presently on the Research and Annual hunt committees. Being in
the Research committee for a short time has been the most rewarding. If I can share some of the committee’s
findings to the club for possible future hunts, I think that we’ll have exciting opportunities, possibly explore
unsearched sites, those so called . . . “little gems”.
I presently use Garrett’s GTI-2500 and also (a blast from the past) a White’s 5000/D series 2, which to some
people is old by today’s standards. . . Long live the 5000!

I’m a history buff and have an extensive library of books, periodicals and articles of the places,
stories, history and, the people that make New Mexico. Being a native of NM, has helped me in
doing my research with the help of my relatives. I collect old post cards, especially Route 66 post
cards, Route 66 stuff, barbed wire, old kerosene lamps, and also a stamp collector. With my family,
I enjoy fly fishing, exploring ghost towns, playing tennis, golf, biking, and hiking. I enjoy music,
especially Blues, Jazz and Classical. Someday soon, I would like to try my hand at gold panning.
